I shared my new BVB Total tactic on twitter this morning, after a thrilling 5-0 win over Gladbach, and the 3-1 win over Manchester City in the Champions League First Knockout Round, and it has gained much interest, with some folks asking for it to be made available for download.
The tactic itself is my attempt to recreate a similar, possession based system I used on FM13, to much success with CSKA Moscow and Stoke City. The difference this time around was that I was very keen to emulate the fast passing styles of Bayern and Dortmund of this previous season, as well as utlising the mad amounts of pace out wide that I have.
First thing to be aware of is that this tactic will fall apart if you don’t have a decent midfield in your squad. I am lucky in that I have several great play makers, who can operate in the midfield, winning the ball up high, and pressing all the time. I also have some great Ball Winners, who I can use instead of a Deep Lying Playmaker, who can give me that extra bit of steel in midfield against teams with an equally strong midfield (I used this in the win over City). As with any tactic, the better your players, the better the system will work, but I would suggest that as long as you have intelligent players, who can pass well, you will do well in midfield.
With regards to the attacking trio, my player roles and individual instructions are based on the players I have in that role, but with pace and confidence to take on players, any player should do well. ALSO, whilst a Centre Forward is great up front, I have found the Trequartista role to be equally good, especially when you come up against an opponent who flood the midfield. Once again, make sure your players can function well in that role.
With that being said, I hope you enjoy this tactic, and I hope it works for you. let me know any tweaks you make to it, and any results you get. You can follow me on twitter @VRFussball.
